Yaselda River - description and description

The river Yaselda (description can be read below)flows in the Brest region in the south-west of Belarus, is the left tributary of Pripyat. Yaselda is a "river of gods". That is how its name is translated from Sanskrit. For the first time, the Indo-Europeans who came to its shore saw before them a deep, wide stream of water that extended to numerous tributaries.

People began to think, why the river in their native landsis called Yaselda, and what is unusual about her name. Polesie aborigines composed many legends and legends. One of these legends speaks of Svyatopolk, the prince of Turov. As if he, spending time hunting, met in the local places a girl who sang beautifully. Her voice enchanted the ruler, and he fell in love with her to the point of forgetfulness, forgetting about state affairs, and also about his own family. The girl was called Yasya. The people surrounding Svyatopolk were dissatisfied with the ruler's love: some wanted to kill the girl, others - to take away power from Svyatopolk. Worrying for her lover, Yasya rushed to the river that flowed in her native land, right on the shore where she first met the prince. Upon learning of her death, Svyatopolk for a long time could not come to his senses and grieved heavily. Later the ruler decided to name the stream in honor of his departed lover. This is how the river Yaselda appeared according to the legend. It is very interesting that in the Ivanovo region there is a village called Svyatopolk, through which a watercourse flows.

Next to those places in Motol, there is still a legend about Yasya and Aldu - a Belarusian young man and a Jewish girl who drowned in the river, saving their love.

Flow

The width of the valley is in different places from 4 to8 kilometers. At the beginning of the riverbed, where Yaseld is channeled, flow prevails at a speed of 1 km / h.
