Surprisingly, the designers of AvtoVAZ began work on the restyling version 20 years ago, when the goal was to change the design of the 99th model.
The new look was not only attributed to the fifteenthmodel. Pioneers in the new version were classmates in the project "Sputnik-2" - hatchbacks of 13 and 14 models (restyled versions of VAZ 2108 and VAZ 2109 respectively), after which the already announced VAZ 21015 and its subsequent modifications were already shown. The beginning of the serial production of the new sedan was planned for 1994, but the country was going through far from the best economic times, therefore the work on the unfinished project "Samara-2" was periodically suspended due to lack of financing. Virtually all the means and forces were spent on finishing work on a fundamentally new car (the "ten") and the new "Sputnik" gradually began to forget. In the end, the development of VAZ 21015 took more than two years, and in 1996 it was put into production in small series, and even after 5 years, a full assembly of the car began on the factory assembly line.
In comparison with the "ninety-ninth" VAZ 21015 becamebit longer. The exterior of the car has changed significantly, the interior has been almost completely renovated, in its turn the roof, doors and sidewalls have remained the same. This tuning of the VAZ 21015 added some distinctive features to the car, namely: a new hood and front fender shape, original front lights, stylish taillights with an interesting decorative insert, body color bumpers, a trunk spoiler with an additional "stop", door moldings and original fairings thresholds, an updated trunk lid and new lighting equipment.
There is an opinion that individual designsolutions were borrowed from the already mentioned "ten", for example, similar points for fixing seat belts, finally, a steering column with adjustments, as well as a dashboard. As for the exterior, here, by analogy with the tenth sedan, you can talk about the license plate located on the bumper.
As power units on the sedaninstall one of two petrol engines - 1.5 and 1.6 liters. At the dawn of the conveyor belt VAZ 21015, the car was equipped with a purely carbureted engine, but since 2001 it was replaced by a motor with distributed fuel injection. In order to increase its service life and reduce the noise level at idle, the developers had a modernized clutch disc. The car is equipped with a simple on-board system, the indication of which will warn the driver about the unclosed door, maximum wear of brake pads, oil level, seat belts unfastened and the key left in the ignition. The new sedan is available in standard, improved and luxury trim levels.
